- summary: .6.9 --> .6.9 floating 5.1 channel volume
I've decided to upgrade the latest Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 version (.6.6) of SMPlayer and MPlayer with the latest available version (.6.9). I've installed it from the launchpad page, suggested by SMPlayer site's download page for Ubuntu, because of instabilities that I was experiencing with the version (.6.6), in hope that many of them were fixed in the later version, but after upgrading, any movie with 5.1 channel audio tracks play with floating volume. It sounds like the volume is increasing and decreasing constantly in sounds like a sine wave pattern. 2 channel tracks don't have this problem. I tried different audio settings and filters, nothing helps and, at least on my hardware, only ALSA output driver supports 5.1 output. I have NVidia CK804 7.1channel sound card, built in into an NVidia chipset motherboard. The previous version of SMPlayer (.6.6), that was installed on my computer, didn't have this problem. Any movie with a 5.1channel audio track played audio fine through all of the speakers with out volume floating in .6.6 version.
