#4 Unable to access server with same name as workgroup

When a server has the same name as its workgroup, the server is not accessible, the link keeps pointing back to the workgroup. I'd like the server link in the workgroup directory to point to the server instead.

Maybe it's more a feature request since Windows doesn't allow to define the same server name as the workgroup's name anyway. But samba for exemple allows the same name to be used, and the Windows client seems able to cope with this.

it may look that windows clients work fine when a server have the same name as a workgroup/domain, but i had many weird problems with it even in windows, mostly different machines and apps doing different things... so this is really a "no-no" in smb/cifs protocol

Do not use the same name for server and workgroup. It's really bad practice. I can't do anything with it. Please use an ip-address or full dns name to access such servers.
