(for SATA, the 'phy event counters' might provide more info: smartctl -l sataphy ... ) AFAIK, Hardware_ECC_Recovered indicates the number of successful ECC corrections. Large values are probably normal for drives with high data densities. Raw_Read_Error_Rate is identical here, this probably means that each ECC correction was sucessful. Cheers, Christian |

In that system, all the drives passed the tests but the lockups kept occurring. I eventually swapped out the power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM - only to see another lockup occur. I speculated that the drive in question might have had an internal electrical problem (?) - swapped the IDE cable, installed the drive in a different system...
