In my attempt to readout the temperature of my disk and to hdparm (park) it if it gets too hot or gives too much errors i installed smart. Everything seems to work, and i was busy writing a disk-check tool utility using smart data. The problem: 1) Temperature readout seems not te be supported ?, i don't see 194 with temperature or another value which can be related to temperature. 2) I am trying to check the Raw_Read_Error_Rate value. Each time i type smartctl -a /dev/hda the value is increased by 27. How come, this is strange ! What is the actual value, can i trust this ? This is the rest of the data : smartctl -a /dev/hda smartctl version 5.33 [i586-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-4 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: Maxtor 92040U6 Serial Number: C603CXMC Firmware Version: MA540RR0 User Capacity: 20,419,854,336 bytes Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 4 ATA Standard is: ATA/ATAPI-4 T13 1153D revision 17 Local Time is: Mon Aug 1 15:03:54 2005 CEST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
