Hi All, Apologies for the two topics in one post. Firstly is there anyway to get smartd to call the external program after every check rather than just on errors ? The reason I want to do this is we have machines at a remote site and are submitting the results of the smart checks to nagios running in our office. At the moment smartd is calling a custom script which parses the output and sends the results over the network to nagios, but I'd really like to have a constant stream of notifications as under the current system absence of a notification could mean either the host was switched off , smartd is not running or there are no errors. I guess what I'm after is a positive ack rather than a negative one. If there is currently no way of doing this, I'll probably end up modifying smartd. Second problem is that in the office we've tested four drives so far. Two of them are known faulty (one only works if placed in a freezer for 30 mins before booting), the other two are suspect, yet smartctl reports the health as PASSED and all the attributes are within the allowed thresholds. The "frozen" one even fails the western digital diagnostics, but still seems to pass the smart tests, any ideas ? Many thanks for your time, Simon Newton |
