Hi, I received this answer but cannot find it in the support mailing list. I used a new case for the external HDD and for a while it seemed to solve the problem - until yesterday the file system was corrupted again. The entry in the windows event log occurred while again a backup with many small files was running. Chkdsk could repair the file system. There were files from previous backups that have been affected also. Additionally an image backup that caused no problems so far did not pass the test. I used the HDD via a USB hub for many years without a problem. With the old case the file system errors happened no matter whether I connected the HDD via the hub or directly with the computer (different USB sockets). So I used the HDD with the new case via the hub again. Any other help for this strange problem with my external HDD? > -------- Original Nachricht/Message --------- > Betreff/Subject: *Re: [smartmontools-support] Frequent file system > errors on USB drive* > Datum/Date: *18.12.2015 10:07:55* > > Hello, > > For me this sounds more of an enclosure or usb port issue than a disk > one, especially if it happens on lots of small files which means more > power consumption.
