In the other case smartmontools are working fine. > How can I or we debug this? > Hi! I have tested further. The following smartctl options work although the harddisk is busy: -H -i -c -A -l error But those crash the computer (but only if the harddisk is busy): -l selftest -l selective -l xerror I have found another interesting thing. In a harddisk idle state I get this error for -l xerror: (The [ number ] lines come from kernel printk) ,----[/usr/local/sbin/smartctl -l xerror /dev/sda] | smartctl 5.41 2010-10-29 r3201 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] (local build) | Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net | | === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === | General Purpose Logging (GPL) feature set supported | [ 2810.989813] ata1: lost interrupt (Status 0x50) | [ 2811.002319] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen | [ 2811.015465] ata1.00: ST-ATA: DRQ=0 without device error, dev_stat 0x50 | [ 2811.015489] ata1.00: failed command: READ LOG EXT | [ 2811.015530] ata1.00: cmd 2f/00:08:03:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 tag 0 pio 4096 in | [ 2811.015540] res 50/00:07:03:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x202 (HSM violation) | [ 2811.015556] ata1.00: status: { DRDY } | [ 2811.015630] ata1: soft resetting link | [ 2811.180308] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/100 | [ 2811.192837] ata1: EH complete | SMART Extended Comprehensive Error Log Version: 1 (8 sectors) | No Errors Logged `---- In this case works the soft resetting.
