Greetings! The Fujitsu/Sun T1000 server has an onboard SAS controller and is generally configured with a SATA disk. Unfortunately it seems that only the general SCSI SMART inquiry works - and which is a little short on output compared to what one usually gets from ATA disks connected to ATA controllers. Is there a chance to get more SMART data from the disk? # lspci 0001:04:02.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1064 PCI-X Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 02) # lsmod mptsas 44771 2 mptscsih 29283 1 mptsas mptbase 78802 2 mptsas, mptscsih scsi_transport_sas 25602 1 mptsas # smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda smartctl 5.39 2009-08-08 r2872~ [sparc64-unknown-linux-gnu] (openSUSE RPM) Copyright (C) 2002-9 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed (not an ATA/ATAPI device) A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting.
