Hi, I have a no-name enclosure with a Prolific 3507 chip, and tried to read smart information, no luck. Below the details. BTW: update to latest firmware highly recommended as these devices may eat your data otherwise (as encountered myself): http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=44 idVendor 0x067b Prolific Technology, Inc. idProduct 0x3507 PL3507 ATAPI6 Bridge bcdDevice 0.01 iManufacturer 1 Prolific Technology Inc. iProduct 2 ATAPI-6 Bridge Controller # ./smartctl -s on -dsat,12 -T verypermissive -a -q noserial /dev/sdb smartctl 5.39 2009-04-28 21:11 [x86_64-suse-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-9 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed (not an ATA/ATAPI device) === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: [No Information Found] Firmware Version: [No Information Found] Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 1 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Thu Apr 30 00:20:33 2009 CEST SMART is only available in ATA Version 3 Revision 3 or greater.
