[smartmontools-support] Inappropriate ioctl for device

I install with 
./configure
make
make install 
on Solaris 10 running X86
 
The drives I am running this against are 
sata with a scsi backplane
and the last drive is fiber.
 
I read online several comments about the error I was recieving, besides
recompiling the source code (which didnt help) I didnt find anything
useful.
