Hi Jose,
The message did NOT say 'Smartd is disabled'. It said 'SMART is
disabled'. These are different things. So the explanation that you give
below does not make sense.
Does smartctl now work correctly on your system?
PS: you use the commands:
chkconfig smartd on
chkconfig smartd off
to turn smartd on and off. You can try smartctl both ways to see if there
is any difference in the output.
