Hi all Preview 5 has just been released - the MD5 checksum is "c8924276c9a8e0eb802a5652e6ae25d6", and the README notes are below. I've finally finished porting all the objects from the OS 9 version of the server, so this is quite a milestone! The focus now will be getting ready for a Release Candidate for version 1.0 :) Cheers, Koryn SlashMUD Preview 5 ================== Welcome to the fifth preview release of SlashMUD on Mac OS X! This release is aimed at two types of people: 1. Those who would like to get familiar with the server. 2. Those who would like to help to debug the server by testing features (see 'Current Focus' below) and submitting bug reports when things go wrong. This is a debugging version of the SlashMUD server, which means: - Some features are currently disabled while they are being implemented. - It is slower than the final version because of the debugging code. - If the server detects any problems it will immediately halt. - It is targeted at people who are familiar with standard Unix commands. - It is strongly recommended that the Developer Tools be installed. If you find any of the above frustrating or limiting, wait for the final release :) If you find a bug, post details to the slashmud-general mailing list: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=7518 Some features (including saving, skills, clans, classes, plugins) are currently unimplemented and/or disabled. Recommended system ------------------ * Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.x). Previous versions (10.1.x, 10.2.x, 10.3.x, 10.4.x) may or may not work, and have not been tested. Installation ------------ Copy the 'slashmudx' folder from the Disk Image to a location on your hard drive. Operation --------- Open the Terminal application, and change to the slashmudx directory on your hard drive, e.g.: $ cd /Users/koryn/slashmudx Run the slashmudx application: $ ./slashmudx To see the options available, use the --help command line argument: $ ./slashmudx --help slashmudx 1.0.0 preview (build 3195). You may redistribute copies of slashmudx under the terms of the BSD License. For more information about these matters, see the file named LICENCE. Usage: slashmudx [options] Options: --check-memory Activate memory debugging checks (implies --debug). --check-world Check world files and exit. --crash-report Display information suitable for including in a bug report. --background --daemon Run in the background. -d,--debug Run the debug version. -h,--usage -?,--help Display this help information. --launchd Run as a launchd process. --loglevel <level> Set the logging level. Valid levels are {'debug', 'info', 'notice', 'warning', 'error' and 'none'}. Hi all, Well, it's a momentous occasion :) The first preview release of SlashMUD for Mac OS X ("SlashMUDX") is ready to be tested. The README file is reproduced below; it would be a good idea to read it before downloading the preview, which is available at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7518 as the slashmudx package. If anyone would like a list of commands that they can use as a checklist to test the server in a systematic way, ask and ye shall receive.
