I was feeling good and decided to CVS up to Fry (I was using Bender), and try it out. I updated all my Perl Libraries via CPAN, and then went and did a make && make install on fry. Things ain't working. Through trial and (mostly) error, I found the answers to all my previous questions, however, I'm still stuck on one minor point: I have my session registration code called as the first thing in Slash.pm's header function. It gets called correctly, and does what it's supposed to. However, on the first page access (which generates the session ID from the username/password cookies that are already set), it doesn't recognize the user is logged in. On the second and subsequent accesses, slash recognizes the user properly. As far as I can tell, this means that slash is trying to get the user information before I'm setting the cookie with the session ID, but I'm not sure where it's doing this. Does anyone have any ideas on where I should be looking? Thanks, -John >A site I'm working on is using slash for message forums. Hi, A site I'm working on is using slash for message forums. I need to be able to make slash start a user session in the event a user accesses the forum section first, rather than going through the main portion of the site. I will need to make datbase accesses as part of setting up the user's session. It seems to me that the best place for this would be right after all of the use lines in Slash.pm. Is this accurate? If so, what object do I need to use to access the database functions? Thanks -John -- John Bafford ds...@zo... http://www.dshadow.com/ |

It scans for mp3's, databases them, and lets you search through them for filename/artist/genre etc etc. I had *hoped* to add download-ability or play-ability to the plugin, but I never had time to work on hiding the src path for a file. I figured I could push the file to the browser, but I needed a way to make sure that no one could ever get the src paths and try to go a browsing in the directory tree (that apache has read-only to in the FS) and leech the entire multi-GB collection and screw our bandwidth. >-----Original Message----- >From: sla...@li... >[mailto:sla...@li...]On Behalf Of >Ralf >Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2001 10:33 AM >To: sla...@li... >Subject: RE: [Slashcode-development] File download? > > >HI, > >Just remembered http://www.perlmoks.com and did a search for, well file >download, and voila, there it is... > >now I just need to figure out how to use a template from the DB.... > >What will be next? a D/L counter? Seems like this is off topic to this list, but... From Ralf, received Sun, Jul 29, 2001 at 08:13:55PM -0700: > New Problem, I got the script working, however It can only access directory > and files that are anyways accessible by the apache daemon, so it kinda > defeats the purpouse. > > Is theer away to make some sort of handler in the conf file that is you want > to access a specific dir you need to be logged in with a certain seclev? Hmm > I guess that entire dl.pl was for the dogs anyway > In my opinion, this is dangerous, for, as you pointed out in a previous post, there is not a whole lot stopping malicious access to your computer. That's why the apache daemon is run with not much read/write privs. But if you really want to do this, I think you can set up a cgi program to copy files from the inaccessible area to the accessible area, then spit them out with apache. It seems that apache can't display files, but scripts can copy them to a place where it can. funny. maybe you can use another script to authenticate, and then a third (or a cron job) to clean out the htdocs subdirectories periodically. (I did a hack like this for a plugin to use slash to manage my digital photos. I use a form to tell the script the local dir (/pics/date) and it copies those pics to /usr/local/slash/site/blahblah/htdocs/pics/date/*.jpg and then writes thumbnails, and links to both in the slash database, so my wife can edit a website photo-album for our daughter. here is the guts of that operation sub main { ... if($op eq 'upload directory') { uploadDir(); } ... } ... sub uploadDir { my $form = getCurrentForm(); my $directory = $form->{directory}; parse_dir($directory); } ... sub parse_dir{ my $imageDir = shift(@_); my @imageList = <$imageDir/*.jpg>; my $constants = getCurrentStatic(); if( scalar(@imageList) ){ parse_list(@imageList); }else{ print ("<strong><center>Hmm, the directory $imageDir doesn't contain any jpegs in it. Perhaps you misspelled something?</center></strong>"); loadPics; } } ... (I think this is by far the stupidest (ab)use of the slash site code/plugin system, but it works for me)) james |

A while ago I created a simple Apache handler that should do what you want. It controls access to a directory based on Slash seclev. This is a preliminary version that hasn't been tested and doesn't use templates (the error message is hard-coded into the module). I have attached it to this message... Hi, In slash pre2.0 you had blocks that allowed you to drastically change the apearance of each section, how is it done in 2.0? I'm trying to use sections in order to provide the site in different languages. I'm thinking of remaking specific *.pl files so atht they would pull the language specific templates, like here in the user.pl.... } elsif ($op eq 'userlogin' && !$user->{is_anon}) { userInfo($user->{uid}, $user->{nickname}); is the "userInfo" the template name?? if so I could append the language letter and turn it into duserInfo and create the specific template. However this would create some problems, like user selectable boxes, all of them would show up at once, so if you have like 3 languages and around 20 boxes for each language... well you get the picture... I know there has been talk around here about internationalization, has any progress been made? any attemps? The problem though, is that "quickies" will have to be redone to make that work. -Brian |

We plan to have only one point to entry the stories to the system and not use the submissions queue. We will have a store with all the stories and then we take it from there, edit them and put in the correct places. Yes, it is similar to the way kuro5hin works. The submission system now have some rules to control abuses and also there are rules for commentss. We want to reuse also this functionality fro the admin interface. I think that a is a good idea to put into plugins this kind of common functionality so when you need to control how the forms are sent to your site in a plugin, you can use this plugin (Slash::Abuser) to reuse it. Yes, now you can take it from Slash::DB::MySQL but I think that is more clear to use Slash::Abuser and for example, if you want to test this functionality, you can have specific "test.pl" of for example, to document the API you can do it in an incremental way. I think that has been said in the list that it could be great to have the moderation and karma system as a plugin. It is the same idea. I attach to this email an example of Slash::Abuser. Hi! I have the need to put all the limits in the submissions area to control the speed and way submissions are sent to slashcode. Hi again, I've been asked to do some processing on users' signatures before they're displayed. (We have another application that fills in the user's sig in the slash db, and it allows text that would cause display problems if we let slash display it without modification.) I'd like to be able to mangle sigs before they make it into the template that displays them. It seems that the only two places the sig is retrieved in the code is in DB/MySQL.pm in the getMetamodComments() and getCommentsForUser() functions. Is this correct, or am I missing something somewhere? Thanks, -John -- John Bafford ds...@zo... http://www.dshadow.com/ |

ForumZilla plugin is now checked in. To use, you need Mozilla 0.9, not 0.9.1. Install ForumZilla 0.3.1 (see http://forumzilla.mozdev.org/). After installing the plugin and restarting your site and restarting Mozilla, run Mozilla, run ForumZilla from the Tasks menu, click Subscribe in the App menu, and enter your URL and click subscribe. Your URL would be "http://yoursite/fz.pl". -- Chris Nandor pu...@po... http://pudge.net/ Open Source Development Network pu...@os... http://osdn.com/ |

We were just discussing redoing this particular thing today.
