I struggled with my install as well. The documentation is quite helpful iff you follow the directions to the letter. I had a helluva time getting it to work using mod_perl and mod_so. I have installed apache many times, and it seems odd that my troubles would reside here, but they did. Soon after pulling my hair out, I took a deep breath and started over with the install. But this time I followed to instructions word for word, and it worked flawlessly.
