Please consider adding a "trickle-out" article release
scheme to minimize the slashdot effect on [known]
smaller sites.

Such a scheme would take into effect the amount of time
since an article was "posted" and actually display the
story on the front page to more users over time, using
a roughly logarithmic scale (paying users excluded, of
course.) something like:

0-15 minutes: 1 in 1000 hits see the story
15-30: 1 in 500
30-60: 1 in 250
60-120: 1 in 125
120-180: 1 in 60
180-240: 1 in 30
240+: 1 in 1 hits see the story.

This scale should probably be modifiable by article, so
that *known* large sites aren't limited, and known
smaller sites have a fighting change of surviving the
slasdot effect.

Anyhoo, just a thought. Do with it what you will. :)

This would create a tech support nightmare for us, as confused users
emailed me asking why stories appear and disappear. While I
acknowledge that this might somewhat alleviate the problems, I think it
    would make things much work.
