The favicon of Slashdot.org is served as 'image/x-icon' both in HTTP Headers for '/favicon.ico' and by <link> in '/'.
However the internal file format is 'image/png' (I checked with Image::ExifTool).

The consequence is that the icon is not recognised by MSIE, including the fresh IE9.
