#4522 Performance issues on all browsers with css deactivated

# Steps to reproduce the bug.

1. Deactivate CSS in Opera, Safari or Firefox
2. Load the home page of slashdot

# Results

The error console of each browsers are throwing an isane numbers of errors or the browser is stalling.

# Cues for finding the error

Some script on slashdot desperately tries to hide some element but when it checks if its offsetWidth/Height are 0 yet, they are not so it gets into infinite loop.
