#4424 OpenID doesn't work

Slashdot

No

Each time I login using my OpenID, it tells me "Verified with http://h3g3m0n.myopenid.com/; please log in to attach this OpenID to an account.".

I login with regular slashdot ID and then logout, log back in using OpenID and just get asked again.

It doesn't quite work like that (yet). Go to your password prefs after logging in (/my/password) and attach your OpenID manually before logging out.

Hi, the subject is right, but I don't know if I should put this in a separate ticket: Using swiftfox I got my myopenid account to work with slashdot.org, but now it does not work. I can delist and re-add the myopenid account url from the slashdot password page, but i get an error: Credentials failed for verify. I'm not sure what changed, but right now, OpenID doesn't work

    When IP Address Event
    9 minutes ago 69.xxx.xxx.xxx Approve for http://slashdot.org/

I see a lot of these in myopenid.com, so I have to wonder what is going on with slashdot.org

I tried https://accounts.google.com/o8/id on slashdot.org using chromium. It worked once and then would not work from chromium or swiftfox. Same error: Credentials failed for verify.

The problem is the message it gives. It says "verified with XXX" ... "please log in to attach this OpenID...".

The wording of the message makes it seem like all you have to do next to attach your OpenID to your Slashdot account is login to Slashdot. Nowhere does it say otherwise.

It doesn't say anywhere in the message or in the Slashdot FAQ that what you actually have to do is login to Slashdot, go to your Password settings and manually attach your OpenID.

It took me two days of frustration to figure this out, when if the message had been clear it would have taken me 2 mins.

At the very least the message should say something like "Please log in and go to your Password settings to attach this OpenID account"
