On live Slashdot, I can't increase my
Preferences|Homepage Maximum Stories. I changed it
from 30 to 50 and hit Save, but it keeps saving as 30.
The other preferences save ok.

I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 under Win 2K, and I am Allowing

Confirmed; this is especially bad for non-US locales, as
often "today's stories" doesn't quite gel with your local
timezone/reading times. Also, with several subcategories
(Interviews, Science, etc) visible on the homepage, this
rapidly causes stories to be pushed off the bottom.

Confirming that this is still broken, and worse, that it
forces the preference for "Maximum Stories" back to 30 if
you change ANY OTHER PREFERENCE and save it ....

Not good. Had mine set to 60 for years, and now can't set
    it to anything except 30.

Any way to "vote" for this one to get some priority?

I have this problem too. I'd like to have fewer stories. I tried values both above and below 30, and it's always reset. Please fix it soon!
