Slackel is a Linux distribution and live CD based on Slackware Linux and and includes tools borrowed from Salix OS. It is fully compatible with Slackware but the difference is that it includes the current version of Slackware. So Slackware users can benefit from Slackel repositories. Slackel disc images can be used in two different forms, Installation disc image and Live disc image. Slackel can be installed on external storage media (e.g. USB sticks, USB hard drives etc.)

Slackel 1.0 version was released on 2005 and it was a KDE edition. It was based on slackware 10.2 stable. It was reconfigured with greek language and applications i needed. Then i created a live iso with linux-live scripts 5.1.8 from slax. So i could install it without having to configure it again from the beginning.
Slackel is now based on Slackware current tree and also use Salix tools for maintaining the system.

Slackel can be installed on external storage media (e.g. USB sticks, USB hard drives etc.)
Slackel supports three installation targets using Slackel Live Installer gui (Sli):

  1. Full Installation: Deploys the comprehensive MATE environment alongside standard internet browsers, multimedia applications, and productivity tools.
  2. Basic Installation: Deploys a minimal graphical system with only the web browser and core system tools—ideal for advanced users building custom workflows.
  3. Core Installation: Deploys a command-line-only base system. It completely omits the graphical interface, making it perfect for advanced users who want to build a custom desktop configuration, a headless server, or a lightweight terminal machine from the ground up
