All, Mike and I worked all day on Boss design and implementation. Mike now has the boss with the turrets up and moving around. I think it our time might be best spent over the next few days really polishing up what we already have. There are several things that need to be done on both the art and programming sides. I will try to list some of them at the bottom of this Email. We can still use what Mike has done on the boss. We thought that maybe after all the enemies are done, we could switch the music, put the screen in "widescreen," and run a little 'boss comes in, and fade to black' sequence. That way everyone still gets to see Kurt's awesome boss, and we can make the rest of the game polished. Never fear though, both Mike and I want to make this a mulit-level game over Christmas... Does this sound reasonable to everybody? I want to see the boss in action as much as anybody, but I think polishing what we have now is more important for the demo. Thoughts? Okay, now for the things that need to be done: --> sounds/music need to be chosen, mixed and put into the game. If the sound effects aren't up to snuff, it will really hurt the game presentation --> I thought I fixed the "crappy music" bug today, but it still sounds bad on Mike's computer... This absolutely must be done --> I have implemented a small invulnerable period after the player dies, but this needs to be matched visually. Maybe Kurt could make a "ghost" version of the players that we could switch over to during that time... -->Level scripting needs to be completed and tweaked. Hooray for Chris helping us out in this area. Again, if this isn't done well, it will really hurt us. -->Enemy hit points, firing rate, AI, TTL... need to be tweaked for max fun :) -->Pretty menus/credits/title/whatever else need to be put in... maybe we can put some extra work in here since boss is on hold. Have highlightable text or something.. thoughts? Also, we could let the player bind their own keys (especially on the joystick) -->Kurt's going to whip us up an award winning movie for the beginning :> -->REAL (non-Kirby) powerup sprites need to be put in. -->implementation of spread shot would be cool -->end of level cinematic -->full game reset -->pretty win/lose screen -->fix terrible alt-tab bug Well, that's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure I forgot some. Please feel free to add anything. I hope the direction I'm suggesting won't offend anybody. If so, we can come up with something doable I'm sure. Thanks for tuning in kids! --Clint |
