I cannot change the default line thickness - it always snaps back to 2 for every type of line.

I know how to individually change the line thickness by right-clicking each line after it's drawn. But I want to preset the default thickness to 2.

I have already followed the instructions here: https://skim-app.sourceforge.io/manual/SkimHelp_22.html I click on the type of line from the preferences, and I try to also set the line thickness to be 1, but this doesn't work.

Please advise as to how to change the thickness without having to click on each line after it's drawn and changing it retroactively.

You must select one of the line controls. It should turn blue when you do. While that is the case, you can change the line width in the panel. This does work for me without problem. in your screenshot, I don't see any of the line controls selected.

How do I select one of the line controls? I saw prior tickets suggesting this but I didn't know how.

When I close and relaunch, Text is selected by default. I am trying to adjust the Freehand thickness, and I tried clicking in the rectangle and on the letters, but I can't select it.

You just click in the line control (rectangle with line preview) in the Notes preference pane. Then it should turn blue, and while it is selected (blue) you can change its parameters in the lines panel.

Are you referring to clicking on the box that is currently purple? Here is what it looks like what I attempt to click this box.

No, that's a color well, to change a color. I am talking about the line wells, in the Note lines and borders section.
