It works for me and many others. It can be that the sourceforge site was down, it has been a few imes in the recent past. Is there any more detailed warning in the logs?

Check for Update doesn't work for me either, for several months.
My Environment is OSX El Capitan 10.11 + Skim 1.4.14 (88).
Here is Console message:
2015/10/30 13:38:15.638 Skim[42396]: Sparkle Error: アップデート情報の取得中にエラーが発生しました。後ほど改めてお試しください。
2015/10/30 13:38:15.638 Skim[42396]: Sparkle Error (continued): The resource could not be loaded because the App Transport Security policy requires the use of a secure connection.
Since I'm using Japanese environment, the message in the first line is recorded in Japanese.
According to Sparkle.strings, it's equivalent in English to
An error occurred in retrieving update information. Please try again later.

It's really a problem with El Capitan, in fact. Apple has made it impossible to download anything, unless we make some hanges, but Apple has not warned us in adavance that we needed to do that. I think that's absolutely unacceptable, but it's the rea;lity. I'm afraid the next release needs to be downloaded manually.

I can confirm the same error and console messages on 10.11.1 with Skim 1.4.14 (88). For me it has been like this for at least a few weeks.
Glad others have confirmed, thanks.
So this is definitely a problem with Skim... either the servers have been down for several weeks, or Skim app has a bug.

Okay. Would you mind posting here when the next release is available? Thanks.

#1060This will be fixed oin the next release. Unfortunately this cannot be fixed retroactively before downloading that new version.
This is now fixed in 1.4.15
Unfortunately, the error is now happening again in 1.4.15. Check for Updates was working for a while, but not today.

#1060Well, if it was working, the bug was fixed. If it is not working at certain times, then the site is probably down.
You’re right, it’s back up already. False alarm, sorry.
