BLaDE

Welcome to the BLaDE wiki.

This is the main wiki page for BLaDE, the open source Barcode Localization and Decoding Engine.

BLaDE was developed at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute to provide an open source tool for detecting and decoding 1-D barcodes. The library itself is only responsible for the detection and decoding processes, and can be used for any purpose. The clients are specialized to help visually impaired users detect barcodes, and use the decoded barcodes to identify a product.

Development of BLaDE was supported by NIH grant “A Non-Document Text and Display Reader for Visually Impaired Persons.”, no. R01 EY018890-01 (projectreporter.nih.gov), awarded to James M. Coughlan.

Here is a list of features that we would like to add.

For publications on BLaDE,as well as details on how to cite this project, please visit this project's homepage at Smith-Kettlewell. For implementation details, please see the wiki pages, as well as the technical report. A database of UPC-A barcode images at various orientations taken by an Android smartphone at VGA and QVGA resolutions is also provided for testing this and other software.
