Hi: I have been learning Scilab to generate separations from images for an imaging process that I am working on. I have been using SIVP in Scilab on WIN XP. Even with stacksize('max'), confining myself to 8-bit images, and clearing matrices as soon as possible, I am still getting stack overflows. My normal workflow is 16-bit TIFF and 32-bit floating EXR, so I'm a bit discouraged. I'm thinking about buying a used Intel 64-bit motherboard on ebay and loading it with RAM, running Linux, and then trying SIP. Anyone got any suggestions for a good motherboard/CPU combo for this purpose? (I've got an ATX server case with a PC Cooling 1kw PS.) What flavor of Linux would be most compatible for Scilab/SIP? (I'm new to Linux, but have some Unix experience, and a lot of experience in building up boxes.) Or, is doing relatively simple matrix math in Scilab hopeless with medium files (16bit, 100MB, RGB TIFFs)? (I could never afford Matlab.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim |
