That's probably because it isn't implemented/impossible at the moment. AFAIU remmina/xfreerdp are view-only clients, i.e. they can only display data from a remote RDP stream. Hence the 1.22.0 changelog entry reads "Application Sharing Viewer"...
Jakub would be the better person to answer if there are any chances to get the reverse direction working. IMHO that would require a RDP-streaming-capable desktop application.

I have the same question. I don't see any way to actually share an application or the esktop with a contact.
I compiled 1.22 with support for sharing.
When I have another user iniate sharing form their end (they used Skype) it works great. I just still don't see a way to initiate from within Pidgin.
