Hi! Thanks Harshula! I would like to post some details of this effort. The event was a huge success! We had 54 registrations (all privately invited, this email was the only public invite) and 35 turned up. A well balanced turn up with a good balance of gender, interest and background. We had designers, typographers, lettering artists, web devs, a few Sinhala bloggers as well! There will be a detailed write-up of the event soon. We had 4 presentations. - Pushapanda Ekanayake presented his upcoming fonts. - Thareeq Azeez presented the Tamil fonts commissioned by Google Fonts proejct. - Dr Sumanthri Samarawickrama did a roundup of her PhD in Sinhala typography and the process - Kosala Senevitathne presented on Typography of Sinhala Numerals. Covering design challenges of adding Sinhala Numerals to fonts. NEXT Idea is to setup a sustainable community platform for all things type, fonts and language and Lang tech related. We need more involvement from the technology side. Let's see. We have a group of 8 people in the core team helping orgnising. Priamary proejct in hand is this meeting and sustaining the meeting. We setup a rotating hosting system for the event. This event was funded and organised by Mooniak. Next event is hosted by Sumanthri. We already have another team for the June event! For the expenses we will find free or cheaper locations to host. And collect like LKR 100 for tea and refreshments at the event. And we already have a few people who expressed interest in bigger contributions. TASKS Cureently this effort is in early stages. However if you are interested we can identify some of the key technical tasks. Packaging Sinhala fonts for Debian - We have a bunch of lcense compatible open fonts from Mooniak that can be packaged. I discussed this with Danishka a while ago. If someone from the community can please help us setup a system for us to do this. - ASCCI to Unicode document conversion We need a tool that can directly convert old FM Abhay or other ASCII like encoded documents (doc, xlx, docx, odf) to Unicode. If you are interested get in touch. Will keep you posted about this. Cheers, Pathum On Sat, 7 Apr 2018, 15:40 Harshula, <har...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Pathum, > > That's great!
