Server filesystem XFS on Athlon kernel 2.6.9 shfs 0.35

Problem - shfs mounted filesystem reports size
incorrectly although the use percentage is correct. For
example df on the server reads
/dev/md0 1953456640 220610956 1732845684
12% /mnt/raid
wheras on the desktop df shows
root@bigbox:/jukebox 7813826560 882443824 6931382736
12% /mnt/jukebox.
If I mount the system on the desktop via samba, then df
shows
//bigbox/jukebox 1953193096 220567248 1732625848
12% /mnt/jukebox
That is, the reported size is 4 times the real size.
Also on a third machine Filesystem EXT3, VIA C3
processor, Fedora Core 3, Kernel 2.6.10 df reports
root@bigbox:/movies 7813826560 882443824 6931382736
12% /media/movies
that is 4 times the normal size.
To eliminate the server from the picture I mounted the
root of the third machine on the desktop machine and
df showed
root@192.168.1.8:/root 393361936 13884320
359495696 4% /mnt/data
while df on the third system reported
/dev/mapper/VolGroup01-LogVol00 98340484
3471860 89873144 4% /
again a factor of 4.
I am not receiving any error messages and file
transfers seem to operate correctly.

I get the same result, with an added wrinkle.
250Gb external hard drive connected (USB2) to PIV server
running Mdk10.1 (kernel 2.6.8)
Drive shfsmounted on Athlon 1GHz client (Mdk10.1, 2.6.8),
df reports all sizes 4x too big
Drive shfsmounted on Pentium M 2GHz client (Mdk10.1, 2.6.8),
df reports all sizes 4x too big

umount drive on PIV; shfsmount drive on PIV.
df reports stupid numbers (size 4M, for 250G hdd!)
Athlon & P-M machines: df reports sizes 4x bigger than stupid
numbers.
