In the old sgml-tools there was an executable called
sgmlcheck which verfied the sgml.
I am not asking for another executable.
I am asking for a very terse back end which just does
verification and does not produce any output (or should
that be in the front end ?)
In any case - the implementation details are better
left in your hands - but I am sure that a lot of users
would like an option just to verify and not produce any
output.
Mark.
