I increase version number of 7-zip for each new public release.
So the "beta" status for 7-zip is just additional marker, that shows that some new code was not tested enough.

And what about the design? will we still have the same boring interface of 7zip when it appeared in Windows 98? When will we see 7zip in the new Windows 11 context menu? when will we see new icons and a dark theme in 7zip? when will we see a renewed interface? or will 7zip still have the same boring interface of 24 years ago?
It is time for 7zip to evolve!

I hope that design stay fast and classic, without fucking 4K-8K mega-icons and ribbon-like crap. New Windows 11 context menu absolutely terrible like UWP-explorer itself. Windows 98 interface fully sustomize as you know. You can change size of contols, borders, shadows, colors - everything. But not in Windows 11. And it wants more and more system resourses. That are degradation. I want to switch to customizable classic interface but Microsoft cut it at all from kernel in Windows 8. Windows 98 wants just 32 Mb memory, now Windows 11 wants iris gfx subsystem just to render all new UWP shit. Hope Igor does not follow that way.

I think most of us will love the modernized but stay fast 7-Zip implementation. And I know and understand Mr. Igor want to make 7-Zip have good compatibility for old Windows versions. (One of my seniors also care about that.)
I had created NanaZip which is a 7-Zip derivative because I know Mr. Igor won't interested in my patch because I want to do something break the old Windows compatibility for achieving the modernized user experience. But I also have created Mile.Xaml because I still want to make my implementation lightweight. (Making balance between modern and lightweight is really difficult.)
Of course, all of my implementation will keep open source and make my additional parts using permissive license for making Mr. Igor can take my improvements easily if he wants. (I am sad because someone dissed me that NanaZip is only a repacked version of 7-Zip without seeing my additional improvements and related work in progress infrastructures like Mile.Xaml.)

The problem is that all "modernized" shit requires new os and hardware but absolutely useless. Will be nice to see zst and more codecs and formats, new encryption and hashing algorithms, but not new shitty 4K-8K design. New "modernized" shit is mental illness. That NEW and MODERN in that design? Everything just like 20 years before, but requires new hardware.

Your comment seems very aggressive towards Kenji Mouri for no reason. He does great work with NanaZip and is very willing to cooperate, do work to make patches upstream compatible and more.
Both 7-Zip and Nanazip are still very fast and sleek.

Hi
Will the new version of 7-Zip be out in 2023?
Last edit: PiotrMP006 2023-03-21
Yes, there are some changes in source code that must be commited as one version change.
I hope I'll finish it in near 30 days.
Hello.
Will there be more beta updates? Happy Easter

Any plans for additional encryption algorithms like ChaCha20, Salsa etc.?
Also (not sure if it's a thing for 7z) KDFs like Argon2?
