Thanks for bugfixes! I hope to see new version faster, than previous iteration.

    3) I've used to fix it by removing the UTF-8 bit in all masks in
    static bool FlagsAreSame(CItem &i1, CItem &i2);
but binary patching is not very pleasant, so I hope to see it in official builds. Doesn't look like relaxing that test would break anything.

    The manual is an example:

    7z b -mmt1 -md26
runs benchmarking with one thread and 64 MB dictionary.

Run line (7zG.exe b -mmt1 -md26) and see in dialog box

    Dictionary size: 32
    Number of CPU threads: 4

    Why?

I'll fix it in next version. Thanks!

1 The built 7z.exe the manual has a description:
    Commands - 9
    Switches - 21

    No Commands:

    rn Rename

    No Switches:

    -- Stop switches parsing
    -an Disable parsing of archive_name
    -ao Overwrite mode
    -sa Set Archive name mode
-scc Set charset for for console input/output
    -scrc Set hash function
-sdel Delete files after including to archive
    -seml Send archive by email
    -slp Set Large Pages mode
    -sni Store NT security information
    -sns Store NTFS alternate Streams
-snh Store hard links as links (WIM and TAR formats only)
-snl Store symbolic links as links (WIM and TAR formats only)
-spd Disable wildcard matching for file names
-spe Eliminate duplication of root folder for extract archive command
-spf Use fully qualified file paths
-stl Set archive timestamp from the most recently modified file
    -stx Exclude archive type

2 The manual describes some of the switches on one line:

-ad Show dialog box in GUI version (7zg)
-snh Store hard links as links (WIM and TAR formats only)
-snl Store symbolic links as links (WIM and TAR formats only)
-spd Disable wildcard matching for file names
-spe Eliminate duplication of root folder for extract archive command
    -stx Exclude archive type

To them I would like more verbose description, use the syntax of the switches and the commands with which you can use these switches.

    3 The manual (fm/options.htm)
    No description of the item:
    Tools -> Options -> Editor -> View
    What is a "View"?

    4 The manual (fm/menu.htm)
    (File Menu)
There is a description of a nonexistent item "Diff"
No description of the new item "View"

    5 The manual (fm/menu.htm)
    (Menu View)
No description of the new item "Auto Refresh"

Ok, I'll fix some of these things.

7-Zip shows "Diff" command, if "Diff" program is defined.
      I use for diff:
      TortoiseSVN\bin\TortoiseMerge.exe

Thank you. The focus with Diff program clear. Why item View displays when the program for view is not selected?

There is default program for "View" - Notepad.

Hi Igor, can you please use Wimlib 1.7.0 in a coming alpha version for support of Wimboot-optimized .wim image files?

    • Igor Pavlov

      Igor Pavlov - 2014-06-19

I don't want to start any new complex code development now.
I want to finish current code now.
      I haven't look Wimboot still.
Do you think that Wimboot is simple to support?

Igor I appreciate very much your project and your effort.
Please do not add anything else; just wrap-up and finish a final version. It doesn't have to be perfect; no one codes perfect apps.
        Then you can think of new things from there;

Having since 2011-04-18 one Beta, plus three consecutive Alpha versions (and counting) with no Linux support, with no sign of a final version in the horizon it's really not good for your valuable project.

        just my humble opinion.

Personally v9.20 is OK for most people... I think we can wait a year or so more for 7-zip to be feature complete to Igor's satisfaction before entering beta... and perhaps another year or two before going into release candidate, and finally a year or so and we'll have a great final product. That's only about 5 years... it may be considered slow in the computer field, but patience is a virtue :)... Half a decade will fly-by rather quickly...

I do not think Igor will enjoy your sarcasm. I didn't.

I think Igor might have his reasons for doing things this way.
At this point I think he's probably reluctant to release his source code for some reason. If this is really the case, while this is a problem for the Linux community, it's not much of a deal for the Windows world. Then he could just produce a final cut (lot of windows users happy) without being forced to release the source code and the project would "somehow" continue moving forward "harmonically".

I also think he might be just too busy; If the secrecy of the source code is not really an issue I wonder if he would be willing to accept people joining the development effort something like Linus does with his kernel (but in a smaller scale of course).

Just humble ideas; I still think we all have to keep saying "Thanks Igor" whatever he decides.

It's not sarcasm, he's the only one developing it, and unlike the others, it's free and he has/need to work full time to support his family. He says he does not release alpha source, only when it's a beta, eg. v9.22. People are making millions from his source code and contributing nil for his hard-work... If I was him, I'd keep my sources in perpetual alpha as well... :(

I think Igor is a grown up man that does not need to hide himself behind "Alpha" if he does not want to release his source.
His effort is huge, his project is amazing, it deserves better than just a consecutive enumeration of "Alphas". I have been using 9.30 Alpha for more than one year now and that version alone has more than "release" quality.

Now I'm ready to release source code.
I just want to fix some new bugs of latest alpha version.
So beta will be pretty soon.

              Hi, Igor.
This is good news. Maybe you share your plans in more detail.
              Thank you.

                Nearest days - next alpha.
If there are no critical bugs, beta with source code will be released in 1-2 weeks.
Then probably I'll start to work for RAR5 decoding support.

Good Igor !! do it that way... wrap-up the beta and you can think of RAR5 or wimboot in the next Alpha cycle...
I really admire your effort. Thanks.

Thank you for the new features in 7-zip. But the Add to archive dialog dose not fit in the screen resolution 800x600. And 7-zip dose not remember the setting for Delete files after compression.

Dialog "Property" does not prevent the screen vertically. Resolution 1024x768

        It's just MessageBox function.
Maybe in future I will use something else instead of MessageBox.

"Delete files after compression" is pretty dangerous option.
It's more safe to disable for each new operation.

800x600 - now I don't want to reduce or redesign "Add" window. So probably there will be problem for x600. I'll think it more later.

Please be careful in the next source code release. That version will go under intense crypto audit verification for ZIP (legal) and 7z (legacy) correct AES implementation. That will be done only in 3 weeks after your launch. Remember to publish SHA-1 sums for every release from your side. Please review your crypto code...

Do you have further information on this "intense crypto audit"?
