Volume compression using the ZIP format fails on some ocassions in version 23.01. Checked on macOS and Linux. Works properly on 22.01 or earlier. Beta 23.00 is also affected.

The error:

System ERROR:
errno=17 : File exists

This only happens with version 23.01, prior version 22.01 is not affected with this issue.

To reproduce:

  • Storing (no compression) a 4 MB (4096k) file in chunks of 1 MB fails:
mkdir test
cd test
dd if=/dev/zero of=dummy bs=4096k count=1
7zz a -tzip -v1m -mx0 test.zip dummy
  • The same command with a < 4 MB (4095K) file succeeds:
mkdir test
cd test
dd if=/dev/zero of=dummy bs=4095k count=1
7zz a -tzip -v1m -mx0 test.zip dummy
  • Other operations with compression also fail. Using no compression just for the test cases.
  • The more big the size of the source files the more chances to fail.
  • Seems to fail just at the end of the operation, probably in the last volume part renaming.

Let me know if you need any other information or test cases.

    Yes, it was reported before.
I suppose I've fixed the problem for next version.
