In windows 10 latest update as of 12/22/2019 on ASUS TUF z270 motherboard whe I run this command
c:\Program Files\7-Zip>7z.exe a F:\backup\Win10AsusZ270\20190906 D:\20190906
it clobbers the 7z.exe file and makes it zero lenght, I tried his several times and same results, even CD to the "c:\Program Files\7-Zip>" folder and doing the command locally clobbers the file as well, as a matter of fact just issuing the 7z.eze a will clobbers the exe file. Issuing "7z.exe i" does not kill the file nore does issuing 7z.exe
I went back to vesion 7z1604-x64 and it works fine.
Maybe antivirus software thinks that 7z.exe is "bad" program.
Write about installed antivirus sofwate, and exact Windows version number.
Also try another more simple command for 7z.exe for another folders ot files.
Windows 10 Pro Versoin OS: Windows_NT x64 10.0.17134
Anit Virus: Kaspersky Total Security 19.0.0.1088(k) -- Database 12/22/2019 5:31 AM
I think the fact that 7z1604-x64 works just fine, should take the Anti Virus out of question.
Issuing "7z.exe" in version 1900-x64 returns all options available, so Anti virus is not bothering it while I am running it without the Archive option. However running "7z.exe a" in version 7z11900-x64 also collbers the file.
Is there any debug I can help you with?

I checked AV and the only thing it reports about 7z is "allowing access"
From Kaspersky AV
23.22.12.2019 10.01.28 Application added to the Trusted group 7-Zip Console Application: 7-Zip Console Reason: KSN information Application path: C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe Time: 12/22/2019 10:01 AM

Antivirus software can know about some revisions of 7-Zip, and they could ban some another revisions, if they see some unusual activity. Maybe internal anti-malware software in Windows can do such stange things.
But if they do it, another users also must see it.
But there are no reports about it, except of your report.
Mayby there is some anti-malware logs in system?
Please try more simple commands:
Do these command work ok?

So these commands do not clobber
7z.exe?Then try to increase the complexity of commands.
And try to find the command with minimal complexity (and minimal file data set), that clobbers
7z.exe.That way you will see the conditions (some trigger) for some external software that clobbers 7-Zip in your system.
Last edit: Igor Pavlov 2019-12-23
You can find out which software clobbers
7z.exeby logging filesystem activity. For example, Procmon from Sysinternals can do that.Thank you for your attension to this issue and You can close this ticket, since after Uninstalling the 1604 version and removing the 7-zip folder and installing 1900 version, I can not reproduce the issue.
Also yesterday the Kaspersky software autoupdated itself to version 20.0.14.1085(e) automatically, which may had something to do with this.
I also downloaded ProcessMonitor tool (aka procmon.exe) and have it handy, and if this happens again, I will run it and watch see which process is collabering the file.
Thanks.
