We would love to hear your questions and comments on why or indeed, why not to develop this game.

I know there are plenty of remakes and also the original out there for free and although each and every one seems to do part of the game very well, they (IMHO) lack other parts.

"freeCiv" has done a very good job but spent way too much time on the graphics at an early stage which has slowed the game down and made it, at least for me, a pain to play. This may be because it is programmed in Java which is why I have lef tthe option open for this version to be changed if we see fit.

"Free Conquest & Colonization of America" is another version, who started with the graphics and worked the game around that but seemed to stop before they did anything functional. I love the smoothness and simpleness of this game and saw huge potential but it looks as if it has gone stale.

"Open Colonization" looked as if they were going to go full steam into the project then...it looks like nothing happened.

"Colonies" or "SweCol2" look like they did a good job but it needs serious optimising. I only test software on my old PC and it hardly runs at all. Maybe it works fine with a high performance machine.

"The Colonization II Project" looks good in teh screenshots but I can't find a download for it that works.

Anyway. Being me, I want a game of Col I can play and add some of the features we'd all like so hence my project. What do you all think?

Actually, when I said FreeCiv above, I meant freeCol. I think it's really well done but it only works well on up to date machines which shouldn't be the case with such a simple game. The graphics seem very unoptimised and slow and it, as far as I could see was very buggy.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great project (from a software developers point of view) but I don't enjoy playing it.
