[seq24-users] Directions

I'm lnux newbie who has managed to write a mandolin tune with lilypond and save it as a .midi. I was hoping to add a drum and guitar track and then just hook up my desktop speakers to the laptop I'm using (fedora core 6) and play along. I downloaded seq24 but I'm lost. When I import the midi I can see it playing but I can't hear it and when try to open seq24 file for info it says it's a binary. Are there any instructions anywhere? Thanks
