there really isn't any "safe" mode to speak of. Does it bring the whole system down when you run it in gdb? Is it X crashing or are you getting a kernel panic ? I would suspect your alsa drivers or something low level crashing. The worst I have even seen seq24 do is segfault.=20 Can you still get to a console and kill seq24 ?
