I'm happy to understand more how gcc handles things. As it is compiler
related, it is still relevant to me, and it's not like we have a huge
amount of mails flying around anyway.

Even if the only benefit is to make sdcc ML more lively on relevant topics,
it is a good thing to me. But others might have a different view.
