Upon attempting to add King's Quest V CD version to the ScummVM launcher it only detects the DOS version. There is also a Windows version with alternate music tracks with altered musical themes. It was also General MIDI as opposed to the DOS version's MT-32 soundtrack. Attached is a screenshot of the file listing of the KQ5 CD and the MD5 checksum.

Well, the DOS version is there too - that's SIERRA.EXE. So, you have both versions on that disc.
I'm guessing that kPlatform handles the audio part and that we should just duplicate the DOS entry to have a Windows one too. Someone with more knowledge of this than me can handle it.
I know the DOS version is there too. I was just pointing out that it won't detect the Windows version. Maybe something as simple as a checkbox somewhere to enable the alternate music tracks is all that's needed? There are no graphical differences as far as I can tell (besides the smaller black and white cursours).
I couldn't find any change happening when I tried my KQ5 CD version using "windows" platform selection. Is there any video or audio file with those alternate music tracks? The original windows sci interpreter of this game doesn't work at all under my Dos-Box windows 3.11 installation, so i'm unable to check.
Maybe the game just had separate MIDI tracks or different drivers, which played those instead of MT32. In that case "windows" wouldn't need to get selected either. We only detect a "windows"-version, if there is really change like kq6 enhanced.
Perhaps it is only a small change. But there are definitely reworked audio tracks not just alternate music drivers. The Weeping Willow themes throughout the game are all reworked playing an alternate theme than what's in the DOS versions.
I recorded a video showcasing all the alternate reworked tracks that I know of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guOpa1-Wy8I
hmm okay. It seems there all sound resources are duplicated and the ones +1000 are the alternate ones. What's a bit strange is that there is no patch inside for midi, only for mt32.
Support for the alternate tracks of the Windows version has been added in r54464-54465
