Scrollkeeper requires docbookx412. docbookx412 does not have a normal ./configure --prefix=$INSTPATH ; make ; make install type package that allows non-root installation into an alternate path. There is no clear way around this limitation that I have found yet. That is really lame for people who either don't want to test as root or do not have root access. For trying out gnome2, this is the only package that has this limitation but unfortunately, many packages require scrollkeeper. It seems like either: 1) docbookx412 should have a normal build script 2) There should be documentation on how to work around the lack of a --prefix option in docbookx412. 3) There should be an option in all programs depending on scrollkeeper to turn off scrollkeeper dependence. (Since scrollkeeper is just for documentation this should not be critical right?) Anyway, I don't mean this email as a flame but I would really like to try out gnome2 (and many gnome 1.4 apps like galeon) but right now I can not. It seems like the only reasonable option is 1) for docbookx412 to work like all the other gnome packages. I realize that docbookx412 is not a gnome package but since it is a dependency it seems like it should work like other gnome packages. Please don't send flames saying that if I want the change I should do it myself. I program verilog only for now. Maybe if I get laid off I'll take up C and start fixing random things that bug me. If anyone has suggestions for getting around this, thanks in advance for any help.
