Sounds good.  Something like a configure option:

    --with-omf-dirs=3D/usr/share/omf:/opt/gnome/share/omf

or

    --with-additional-omf-dirs=3D/opt/gnome/share/omf

Nevertheless it's needed to provide reasonable defaults.
