Was redirected here from Notepad++'s tracker since this depends on Scintilla's behavior and I've confirmed it in SciTE.

When I type any key, SciTE's view snaps/follows/jumps to the caret's position so the caret is always visible. I'd like to be able to disable this. I regularly need to type something while looking at another piece of text and don't need to stare at what I am typing, so I want the editor to not move at all.

The documentation describes SCI_SCROLLCARET for Scintilla and caret.policy for SciTE, which I feel are relevant. But after experimenting with global properties in SciTE, I seem to unable to affect what I'm looking for. Out of described combination for the Caret Policy, I don't see "When reaching limit (going out of visibility or going into the UZ) display is... not moved and the caret is allowed to be off-screen while typing". This should be two additional toggles for both vertical and horizontal scroll.

I'll assume 'scite' is more relevant than 'scintilla' since I assume the intended behavior should be reproducible in SciTE first.

Does not seem a common need to me. Will Notepad++ provide access to this option if it is implemented?

There has been no interest shown by the Notepad++ developers so I am closing this issue.
