It looks like a problem with including stropts.h (but I don't see any
errors or warnings in config.log)

configure:3258: checking for stropts.h

I have to add to zvt/subshell.c 

#include <stropts.h>
#include <bits/stropts.h>

I only do this to get a sucsessful compile - I haven't looked into why 
configure isn't doing this automatically. Perhaps the problem is that I
am using libc6 2.2?

Also note that libzvt-dev is also required for compiling on debian -
the libzvt.so is in this package.
