No, Scidb will not read opening books. All chess-computer related tasks will be done by [Jessy]http://sourceforge.net/projects/jessy/, Scidb is only a chess database application and does not need opening books.

Ok, I think that opening books are very useful. I will support two formats: .ctg (ChessBase; .cto and .ctb does also belong to the book), and polyglot (.bin; this suffix is chosen very unluckely). Probably I will extend the polyglot format with a second file, because this format does only provide weights and learning info - this is quite poor - and has no support for extensions. The polyglot format will be supported read/write, but the ChessBase format can only be used read-only.

Yes the polyglot format has several drawbacks, first of all the suffix, but it is a standard, so...
This function will be implemented only in Scidb, o in Jessy too?

OK, good for Jessy. However i consider the opening book like a fast-to-consulte database about opening
Scidb does not have a window for displaying openings. Currently only the tree window is existing, which is bound to a database.

Of course, it will also be implemented in Jessy.
Furthermore I will support Scid's *.stm files read-only. Internally these files will be mapped to the extended Polyglot format.
