The main window displays information about [TheActiveGame] and, wait for it, a chessboard:

From top to bottom, we can see: a title bar, SCID's menu, a tab, a toolbar, a chessboard, and [TheBoardMenu].
Under the board menu can appear [TheGameInformationArea], to display more information.

The Title Bar

The status bar shows "Scid - " followed by the name of the database, then a fraction of the form "N/M."
The first number indicates the rank of [TheActiveGame] in the database, the second the number of games.
For instance, "1/11" would suggest that [TheActiveGame] is the first game of a database containing 11 games.
Note that the number of games include deleted games.

The Tab

The Chessboard tab shows the database name in parenthesis, a colon, and then the name of the two chessplayers.
If the game has been edited without being saved, an asterisk will appear next to the database name.
Like this - (Name*:).

The Toolbar

Above the chessboard there is (or you can add) a toolbar, with various buttons to speed up access to SCID's Menus.
The toolbar can be configured in [TheOptionsMenu] with Options / Toolbar...

The Chessboard

The chessboard looks like a chessboard. It's hard to miss.

You can configure the board in [TheOptionsMenu] under Options / Chessboard..

Replaying a Game

To replay a game, you can use the toolbar, keyboard shortcuts, or the mouse. Note that the mouse needs to over the main window to use it to move back or forward a game.
