Hi all, First of all, sorry for being so quiet this month. I had planned to get a lot of Scid work in January, but unexpected deadlines for other software I'm writing came up, so I've had had lots of late nights, but almost no time for Scid. Hardware problems (had to reinstall lots of software) didn't help either. February will be very different; I plan to release 3.6 in early February and 3.7 (or at least a 3.7 beta or two) by the end of the month. The website will be updated right after I send this email. I've held off a 3.6 beta until now because (although it has few changes for the end user except several bugfixes and a redesigned comment editor window) there has been a massive cleanup of the Tcl code: I've used more namespaces and split the source code files into a heirarchy. This will make it much easier to maintain and develop Scid in future. Expect 3.6-beta1 to be released within 24-48 hours (it will be announced on this list), as I'm finishing my code cleanup and testing it all today. Thank you to everyone who responded to the CD-ROM and ScidBase pages I posted here in early January. I wasn't expecting to receive any donations until the pages went "live" at the website (which is happening today), and have been slowed by hardware problems (lucky I had good backups!) and all the other work I had on in January. So there is a backlog of CDs to send, which I will clear in the next few days; after that, there should be a delay of no longer than 2-3 working days between receiving a donation and sending a CD. Sorry again to all those who donated and are waiting; hope it is worth the wait! Cheers, Shane |
