After updating to the latest version (v5.2), I noticed that font rendering is now very bad. This wasn't the case on v5.1.

I am running the linux version on arch linux.

I'm having the same issue with v5.2, I updated as well from v5.1

At first the text looked different but still legible, I messed around with the text options, came back another day and now it displays what the screenshot shows, completely illegible.

I am running the linux version on linux mint

I had the same issue on the precompiled version.
Fulvio wrote me a comment: "The precompiled version is built by the CI using an Ubuntu
runner, and it is highly likely that the Tk configure script didn't
enable some extra font libraries used in your distro."
I compiled the source against tcl/tk9.0 on my system and all fonts working well now.
So best suggestion: compile it for your system. (compiling against tlc/tk8.6 should work also)

Same here. I am not quite sure how to compile against tcl/tk9.0 as I'm a pretty basic Linux user. I'll try and use gemini to find out

UPDATE: I used google gemini to help me install from source and seems to now work
