Hi all, The latest version of SchemeUnit contains setup and teardown actions for test cases and test suites specified by keyword arguments. E.g.: (make-test-case "name" (assert = 2 (+ 1 1)) setup (display "setup") teardown (display "teardown")) make-test-suite works the same way, except the keywords setup and teardown must be quoted (as make-test-suite is a function, not a macro). I'm not entirely happy with this mechanism and some more work is required (e.g. what happens if a test suite setup or teardown action fails?) so if you have suggestions please send them to me. This is the last task other than documentation for SchemeUnit 2.0. So it should be released soon -- just in time to redevelop it for v300! Hi all, I am considering adding setup and teardown actions to test suites. The cleanest way. to me, of adding these would be to allow keyword arguments to make-test-suite. If I did this I would change make-test-case to also accept keyword arguments for setup and teardown actions, and remove the current system. This would break old code but lead to some improvements IMHO -- one of the most common probs seems to forgetting to wrap multiple expressions in a begin when using make-test-case. Any thoughts? The science collection is largely complete and I would be happy to send the code to any individuals who want to look it over. It should be ready for general distribution (probably using PLaneT) in the next week or so. Doug > -----Original Message----- > From: sch...@li... Hi! I want to use the tabulate-matrix function defined on matrix.ss on the subproject schemathics. Because tabulate-matrix is a private definition, I've added it to the provide clause. But I'm unable to use it. The error I see (in DrScheme) is "expand: unbound variable in module in: tabulate-matrix". The previously defined functions work just fine. I'm using drScheme version 2.08 under Windows 98 and I've modified the PLTCOLLECTS enviroment variable to point to the modified version of schematics. Thank you very much for your time, Aureliano. Ryan Culpepper developed the GUI (it is the Test button that appears in DrScheme when you have SchemeUnit installed). It has a much better interface than the text-ui but some problems of its own. This email from him describes the current state of the GUI: http://list.cs.brown.edu/pipermail/plt-scheme/2004-August/006380.html Currently the GUI is broken. I want to make regular releases of new SchemeUnit code and don't have the time to redevelop the GUI right now (and I'm hoping someone else will; either as part of the PLT testing tool or separately :) So I intend to drop it from the 2.0 release and redevelop it if I have time later on. I'm a bit leery to invest a lot of time in it right now as 300 will probably break any work done on 20x Noel ===== Email: noelwelsh <at> yahoo <dot> com AIM: noelhwelsh __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? How would allowing assertions to capture arbitrary failure info break compatibility with 1.x? The way I read "break compatibility" means all tests written to 1.x would need to be fixed. Or does it just break custom assertions? require/expose sounds awesome. I wasn't aware there was a gui, I'll try to have a look and see what it's about. When I have a set of tests with sub-suites and one of the sub-suites has a failure
(see code below), the failure isn't reported in the Test Root node. To see these
failures, you have to manually search the tree of tests, and it's easy to miss
a deeply nested test case failure.
I would like to see the sub-suite failures propagate all the way to the top (i.e.
a test-suite fails if any of its tests or sub-suites fails, and similarly for errors)
(define (add a b) (+ a b))
(require (lib "test.ss" "schemeunit")
(lib "drscheme-ui.ss" "schemeunit"))
(define adder-tests
(make-test-suite
"tests for adder.scm"
(make-test-case
"addition"
(assert = 2 (add 1 1)))
(make-test-suite
"recursive suite with failure"
(make-test-case
"recursive failure case"
(assert = 4 (add (add 1 1) 1))))))
(register-test adder-tests)

I have just released some code for client side cookie management. It provides: - a representation for RFC 2109 and Netscape cookies - functions to parse cookies from HTTP headers - a cookie-jar to manage received cookies - functions to turn cookies into strings suitable for a Cookie HTTP header - miscellaneous other procedures There are some outstanding issues with the package, but it should be good enough for small scale applications. It has been released now, when it still have some problems, to give others access to the code as early as possible. Future releases will fix these problems and add additional functionality. Hi all, I've just released SchemeUnit 2.0 alpha 1 as a sketch of some of the intended functionality for the next version of SchemeUnit. The code is released as a tarball, not a .plt, as I don't recommend installing it in your collections path at this early stage. If you're interested in the future development of SchemeUnit please take a look as this package, in particular the CHANGES and TODO files. I'm open to all suggestions for additional functionality. Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Dear Schematicians, At http://schematics.sf.net/new/schematics.html is a simple design I've knocked up. I've only looked at it in IE 5. It probably looks 'orrible in Mozilla. Please comment, or better yet, design your own replacements for our crumby website. Maybe we can have a little competition to redesign the site. My design is pure HTML + CSS.
