If you want to stick to the fhs or if the specific distribution has a specific filesystem-policy, you can change the default spotify setting

Looks to me like some kind of minecraft download kernel strangeness which I find very hard to believe in this basic functionality. Any idea how to pursue that further?

I tested this now on ubuntu-16.10 and get a crash too (and therefore with scanbd also). Looks like a bug to me fix it

I spent some more time on this thing. Compiled 1.4.4 from sourceforge. I can reproduce the behavior I have described. I added some additional logging before and after the delta fork() right before the execle() of the script.

I have an HP ScanJet 8250 that uses the avision backend. When I start scanbd (service scanbd start), and watch the logs, it shows the scanner being recognized. I wasn't seeing any action with specific button presses causing the test.script to run, so I opened up globaltest to filter = "^.*".
