Nothing happens upon program start

I've followed the download and install instructions but nothing happens when I click on the icon to start SCAN.  If I click it a second time, it tells me it can't access the database because it's already in use.  I stop the process, delete the .lck file and it just happens again.  I can't find any documentation suggesting where to look next.

I've made certain I've got the latest Java updates.  The documentation for SCAN says to use Java 2 Runtime 5.0 or higher but there's nothing on the Java site called by that name.

Running Window 7 64bit.

I'd appreciate any help or guidance.

I've got the same problem, running windows 8 pro 64bit (initially thought it would be something to do with the lousy windows 8 operating system but if it's happening with win 7 too…) Any way hope there's somebody out there with an answer from the description and looking at the manual SCAN looks like the program I've been searching for to manage my documents (The next best thing I've found has been Benubird PDF but that seems to lack power and keeps crashing and other things like power port are just glorified file managers while most DMS are too complex and resource needy for home/home-office use)
