what's function of .ico files ?

i read:
The SBW Broker should not normally need to be started explicitly, because the SBW libraries start the Broker if it is not already running. However, some functions (such as the --shutdown command) do need to be invoked directly.
Is needed make a .desktop file for Broker?
Do exist tests which i can perform to test Broker?

Dear colleagues, I ask you to help me for installing optinstall.exe, we have such a message during installation: "SBW C/C++ library filed to load, unable to link to SBW". Thank you in advance
First of all let me recommend that you dont use them (as they have not been updated since 2004, you'd be much better of with newer optimization tools, such as COPASI: http://copasi.org).
That being said, If you really wanted to use them, you'd require:
- a windows machine (or a virtual machine running windows(preferably 32bit))
- first install the SBW framework (as available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sbw/files/sbw/) note i do not know which version will work with the SBW optimizers. It might be that you'd have to go back to an older version.
- only once SBW is working (as you could find out, by starting any of the modules contained in the installation package like jdesigner), you would install the optimizers.
